Gioia Consoli began with oil paints in her hand and ended up with a passion for pastel. Most of the subject matter in her work is sketched live while on the coast of Maine. Color - and the immediacy of the plein air technique - combine as a testament to the beauty of the natural world.

ok, just getting started and thanks to e fitz smith for making this blog possible.

there are some recent pastel paintings and gouache paintings from scenes at the jersey shore and from maine. recent means all from 2009-2010 because i just started working on art after a 2.5 decades long break. maybe made 1-2 pictures a year during that bleak period.

i was inspired to begin working in pastels after looking at the artwork of and meeting the amazing artist Thomas Curry while in Maine.

so thanks for checking out the art and hope you'll visit again to see what's new.
